Inspired by Man Cave Quilts

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

I received recently an email and photo from Vickie Smith. She purchased our book, Man Cave Quilts. The fishing quilt inspired her to make this version of her own design.

I love Vickie’s creativity with the fonts for the names! And combining it with rectangles of fish panels sets it off.

Vickie says she belongs to a quilt group dedicated to making quilts for children at risk called Quilts from Caring Hands in Oregon. And that it was nice to make a quilt that wasn’t so girly!

Thanks, Vickie, for sharing your photo! And best wishes on the goals for your quilt group.

Lodge quilt from book1

I received yesterday an email from Amy Fahey who lives in Champaign, IL. She has bought our book, Man Cave Quilts, which was released last July. AND Amy has completed making the Hunting Ground quilt from our book!

Didn’t she do a marvelous job?! Her piecing and appliqué look wonderful! When I asked Amy if I could show her quilt to you she said: “Sure! Its such a great pattern and easy to do!”

Thank you for sharing your quilt! I hope the person you have in mind to receive it gives you a big hug!

If you would like your own copy of our book, you can find it on our website, at Amazon and possibly at your local quilt shop. There are seven quilts for men-hunting, fishing, hockey, car or motor cycle racing, sailing, football and nature.

Sunrise Fabrics quilt shop

Saturday, September 15th, 2012

My husband and I are back from our mini-vacation from Monday to Wednesday of this week. We had a marvelous time exploring the west side of Michigan and the town of Ludington on Lake Michigan’s shore.

We walked the 1.8 mile hike on a sandy road to the lighthouse at the Ludington State Park. The pictures below were taken from the shore.

This one was taken while walking back along the beach to the parking lot. The wind was whipping up the waves and they pounded the beach while we walked barefoot through the waves.

The day before we drove up to Manistee from Ludington to a quilt shop I had visited last year. Cherrie Koblinski owns Sunrise Fabrics quilt shop.

She has a marvelous shop downtown in Manistee and while there last year I shared about my upcoming book, Man Cave Quilts, published by Leisure Arts. Cherri was very interested in it since fishing and hunting are big sports in this town along Lake Michigan.

So when the publisher sent me 12 free copies to promote our book I made sure her shop received one. I looked at her quilt book rack and guess what I saw!

Cherri had really appreciated receiving her copy and ordered more for the shop. She’s planning on teaching a class from the book – probably using the fishing quilt. I also found some lovely fat quarters for the pattern I’m working on next!

As you can imagine the trip to Sunrise Fabrics was one of the high points in our vacation this week! You can find Man Cave Quilts on our site by clicking on this link:

We vsited another great quilt shop but I’m saving that for another day.

Man Cave Quilts on Facebook

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

A big THANK YOU to Fairfield Processing for posting our book on their facebook page! Here it is:

http://www.facebook.com/FairfieldWorld

They graciously donated batting for the quilts in our book. I used their 60/40 cotton/polyester batts and their Soft and Toasty batting. Both excellent products! I also use their bamboo batts in my single patterns. Actually I go to their batts first when purchasing for my business!

Check out the link! It also shows other quilts, patterns and books using their products.

Thanks again, Fairfield Processing!
