Chillin’ in Fons & Porter’s Easy Quilts

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

A quilt I designed for Clothworks using their Chillin’ collection by Barb Tourtillotte is in the winter issue of Easy Quilts and currently on the newsstands! Here’s a photo from page 70 from the magazine.

Chillin'

This is an easy quilt to make with 10 1/2″ navy polar bear print squares and same sized pieced squares of a printed stripe, snowflake and small mitten fabric. I loved working with the flannel-it was soft, cuddley and sooo cute! Kits for the quilt are available from the magazine for $49-not bad for a       50″ x 60″ quilt. It’d make a wondeful gift for under the Christmas tree!

One quilt shop machine quilted exciting designs in the plain blocks around the center medallion. This is a great quilt for beginners and those of you who love pieced designs!

Auction for Joyful Hearts-Coeur Joyeux

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

On September 10th an auction was held in Santa Barbara, CA for the excellent cause of Coeur Joyeux or Joyful Hearts who minister to Africans who have been badly harmed by the genocide in Rwanda and Congo and in dire need of shelter and food.

Back in August Katie Simon Frank asked my permission for her to make the Simply Hearts Tablerunner I designed to put in the silent auction.  Katie sent this photo of her tableunner which she named Joyful Hearts after the cause. She used the colors of  Africa and did a wonderful job!

Her sister-in-law, Betsey Kain and her husband David, have been donating their time and expertise in psycotherapy since 2006 to help the people recover from the horrors of the genocide of 1994.
Even though the auction is past you can still help by sending donations to Goats for Gifts. By donating $40 a goat will be bought and given to a family who will take care of it and use the money earned to buy medicine, send a child to school or help the family in many ways. Here’s the link to Goats for Gifts site: http://www.goatsforgifts.org/goatsforgifts/   There is also a way to donate $2000 to buy a holstein cow for a family at this link:
Thank you, Katie, for bringing this to our attention! What a wonderful way to spread love around the world.
