Fabulous E-Pattern Site!

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Have you visited the new e-pattern site called The Quilt Pattern Shoppe at http://www.thequiltpatternshoppe.com/designers/ yet? I am one of 21 designers you can find there and I’ve been asked to highlight their shop’s uniqueness and bring it to your attention!

There are over 230 patterns you can choose from in intermediate skill level. The pattern styles include pieced modern, country, primitive and appliqué motifs. If you are looking for bag patterns, wall hangings, table runners, coasters, BOM quilts, bed sized quilts and free patterns-you can find it all there!

All the patterns are downloadable from your computer so you can have instant return for your purchase and the pattern in your hands in minutes. There are no shipping costs and they have a Shopper Reward Point program that earns you points from each purchase. You can then use these points for thread and fabric from partner stores and receive free patterns from The Quilt Pattern Shoppe!

Emily Purcell is the creator behind the shop. She and her team does a fabulous job for the designers as I can testify! They also are getting great comments from their customers. Their site is very convenient for anyone living miles away from a quilt shop.

You can visit their blog at: http://www.thequiltpatternshoppe.com/designers/ and also follow them on Twitter! Check them out-it’s a great site!

Spring Wildflower Garden Plants

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Randy, my husband, has a wildflower garden in one of our garden beds under a service berry tree. Four are blooming now and I wanted to share their glory with you!

Spring Wildflowers

This is trillum and blooms only in the spring. One of the greenhouses in our area sells wildflower plants which is where he purchased them. They have a great variety and the wonderful advantage is that you don’t have to dig them up from the wild! The small flowering plants are bedstraw which spreads and bloom now too.

Spring Wildflowers

This is jack-in-the-pulpit and is growing by the back fence which is tall and is shaded by a cedar tree on the left. He also has dutchman’s britches which aren’t in bloom yet and spring hepatica which has just finished blooming and are a soft pink color.

Spring Wildflowers

Here’s is a new flower this year for the garden called Solomon’s Seal. We love taking walks in the woods around our area. Randy has a master’s degree in this field so this spot of native wildflowers are treasure to him and our family!

Introducing Laura Day-partner in Cottage Quilt Designs

Introducing

We would like you to meet Laura, the creative writer at Cottage Quilt Designs! She is the author of Orchid Remembrance, the story written for the newest BOM Scrappy Bali Orchids. We have been hearing back from our customers great reviews of her story!

Her story is the first we have published for the story block projects on our site. We have been working on the next book titled Strangled by Wild Geese for some time. This book contains Laura’s first story in the quilt mystery series about Isabelle-a fiesty 80’s quilter, her cat George and her niece Tara who helps her beloved aunt solve the mysteries that crop up in Isabelle’s life. Laura has been writing this series since 2006 for Cotton Spice which is an online quilting magazine. Along with the story will be quilt projects you can make that I have designed using flying geese segments. Most of the projects are small and quickly made with one quilt that goes with the story. We hope to publish it this year so watch for our coming announcement!

Laura and her husband Kevin live in Michigan and are restoring an 1880’s farmhouse. They live with their two cats, Zoé and Missy.

Laura has also just accepted the editor positon in the new magazine, Ruby, coming out hopefully in July. This magazine is for women and families and has a Christian slant in its articles. Laura is editor of the continuing story department and has a new story that will be published as a series in Ruby.

Watch for that annoucement too because the downloadable issues will be available at the Cotton Spice magazine site until Ruby has its own website. Ruby will have six issues per year and can be purchased for $2.75 per issue or $13.75 per 1 year subscription.

The articles will cover everything women are interested in: home, family, shopping, decorating, cooking, hobbies, charity, coloring pages and a paper doll (by myself!), music, friends, a monthy devotion and more! It’s going to be a great magazine! Karen Gass, the creator and main editor of Ruby, is taking contributions from readers of stories, poems, pictures of your kids, grandkids, garden, new curtains-if its important to you, then we want to share in it with you. Contributors receive name and blog/website credit.

There will be a subscription button to Paypal on the Cotton Spice magazine site for Ruby when the button is ready that will be a secure place to purchase and download the issues.

Nite-Time Baby Bear in Quilter’s World Magazine!

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Are you looking for a cute crib sized quilt for the baby shower coming up? Here’s one I designed featuring teddy bears in pj’s and bibs in a beginner skill level that is published in the current June issue of Quilter’s World magazine.

Here’s the photo from the issue:

Nite time baby bear

This makes a 46″ x 62″ quilt and has four-patch and Jacob’s Ladder blocks along with the big and smaller bear blocks. P&B donated the fabric from their Play Date collection by Nancy Mahoney. The fabric looks like 30’s reproductions.

The magazine just came out and should be on the magazine stands. Hope you take a look at it!
