Sweet Dreams baby quilt-moon and stars appliqués

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

The newest baby quilt is ready! It’s Sweet Dreams-revised from the earlier pattern a few years ago. It’s fast, sweet and just has four main fabric selections with a scrap for the moon appliqué.

Sweet Dreams

I asked a longarm machine quilter to work on the quilt that I haven’t used before. She-Doreen Clink-did a great job! She’s from Caro, MI-a small town east of where we live. You can see the stars and she added teddy bears to the dark teal squares and rectangles. Here’s what they look like from the back of the quilt:

I’m very happy with her work and how the fabric selection and blocks turned out. I can’t wait to give it to our first grandson! There isn’t one on the way yet but I can wait!

Sew Special Fat Quarter Gifts

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Here’s a new book by House of White Birches called Sew Special Fat Quarter Gifts. There are 64 quick and easy designs such as baby items, bags, last minute gifts, throws and tablerunners. I designed one of the tablerunners named Pink & Green Squared. Below is a picture of the tablerunner and copy of the book I received yesterday. The fabric is from Clothworks Textiles fabric company.

The tablerunner is quickly pieced with four patch black print squares and light green print squares. Then you fuse onto the black four patch two green and two pink dotted squares as shown in the picture. Very simple-you don’t have to piece in all the small squares. The fused edges are finished when you machine quilt the runner.

This is a very nice book with lots of attractive projects in it. The baby section is great with play mats, diaper or tote bags and even a yo-yo puppy. Ask for it at your local quilt store or watch some of the quilting catalogs-they may pick it up too.

Secret Jungle by Clothworks Textiles

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

This is what’s in my sewing room today-the Secret Jungle throw quilt from Clothworks Textiles fabric company.

Secret Jungle by Clothworks Textiles

I designed this quilt for Clothworks last year and it’s so amazing to be actually working with the beautiful fabrics designed by Laurel Burch. I’m making the sample for a quilt shop. If you’d like a kit for yourself you can contact your local quilt shop or I can get you in touch with this shop owner.

I have the framed squares done and will be making the flying geese units next. Here’s a photo of them on my work table.

I can’t wait to see the strips made and the quilt top put together. I’m having someone else machine quilt the throw. It’s going to be so gorgeous!

Happy quilting,

Rochelle

Scrappy Bali Orchids BOM patterns complete!

Saturday, January 10th, 2009

Laura and I are very happy to announce that her book, Orchid Remembrance, is printed! In a snowstorm Laura, Kevin (her husband and driver) and I drove very slowly to Midland, the next town over from us to pick up her books. The snow was beautiful in the trees but visibility was small.

Scrappy Bali Orchids BOM Patterns Complete!

The first of the books have been sent to waiting quilt shops. Pre-orders of the pattern set and book are being filled and will be sent out the week of January 11th. The pre-order discount still applies until January 31st, the end of this month. So if you want to get in on the 20% discount we’d love to hear from you! Your order will be filled promptly and sent out.

I am very happy with how this pattern set and Laura’s book has turned out. It is a beautiful set of six patterns-one of each of the appliquéd blocks. Orchid Remembrance is a paperback with 24 pages. You can find the Scrappy Bali Orchids pattern in the Block of the Month section in the catalog. Laura’s book is included in Block One if you would like to order it a month at a time instead of all at once. You also have the option of ordering Orchid Remembrance by itself for $4.00.

Happy quilting,

Rochelle

Holiday Flourish

Here is what I’m working on now in my sewing room. It’s a new pattern designed for Kaufman fabrics and below is the EQ6 image of the quilt. The fabrics are very rich with gold and brilliant colors. The pattern should be ready to be ordered in a few weeks and will be $8 retail. The size of the quilt is a throw size 54″ x 66″.

Kaufman is taking wholesale orders for this fabric now so let your local quilt shop know about the collection if they haven’t browsed Kaufman’s site yet and you love it as much as I do! Quilt shops can also order this pattern later when it’s done through Pattern Peddler and Kaufman fabrics.
