Peek at our Appliqué Club

Friday, December 19th, 2008

I’ve been delaying posting on the blog so that I could show you the pattern I am going to teach at the local fabric store. I’ll be teaching a beginner and advanced class in hand appliqué.

I’m using a pattern by Maggie Walker. It’s called Redware and has three blocks that are from beginner to very advanced skill levels. I have just finished the quilt top of the sample that’s going to be hung up in the store, The Fabric Fair in Bay City, MI. I have made two of the blocks as the third is very involved with many tiny pieces.

In the picture the beginner block is on the left with the next advanced block on the right. I will be quilting it and it should be hanging in the store by January 1st. That’s when the newsletters go out and students will be expecting to see samples!

What do you think? My style is different from her’s so it was refreshing to make it! The beginner class will be in January with the advanced class following in February. Now I just have to make the kits to go with it too!

Merry Christmas to you and yours,

Rochelle

Holly Cascade

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I am very happy to announce that a quilt design of mine has been published in the December 2008 issue of Cotton Spice quilting magazine! You can click on the magazine’s link here: http://www.cottonspice.com/  The instructions and diagrams are in the issue. Here’s a photo I took of the quilt:

Holly Cascade

The piecing is easy within the blocks and I am so happy with how the cascade of holly leaves and berries turned out! The basket is just an upside down flying geese unit with a basket foot fused on the bottom. The instructions are for fusible appliqués but you could do hand appliqué with the simple shapes. You can also order fabric kits. The article gives the email address to order the kits which are around $40 for the backing and top fabrics. Next year I will be adding this pattern to my seasonal section.

Also in this issue is Laura Day’s next story about Tara and Isabelle. If you have been following the quilt mystery stories then you know how interesting and fun they are. Karen, the magazine editor, just forwarded an email from a reader that said how much she enjoyed reading about Tara and Isabelle. Laura is my daughter so Karen knows how proud I am of her.

So take a look inside the magazine! There are two more quilts to see, another story to read and other articles and puzzles to see.
