Good News!

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I have good news for those of you who have been wanting to try our Block of the Month patterns!

Because of the tightening of the economy I have decided to reduce the price of the patterns. Formally each pattern in the set was offered for $5. I have cut the cost of each pattern down to $4 per pattern in the sets.

So now the cost of the complete set for the Calla Lily Day Dream (which has nine patterns) is $36 instead of $45. The cost of the Floral Fantasy is now $32 (which has eight patterns) instead of $40.

Good news

Because this is a permanent price and not a sale I have emailed to all my customers who have already ordered the Block of the Month patterns. They have been offered a free pattern with a value of $9 or less of their choice. I see each one of you who orders or who contacts me as a friend in our quilting journey.

good news

I have been very happy to share these patterns with you and you have expressed back to me how beautifully packaged they are and how much you love the designs. So with prices going up and up here is one example where you can take advantage of a bargin.

Happy quilting!

Pumpkin Wall hanging

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Do you like to sew for the seasons? That’s what I did when I was learning to quilt. I made small wall hangings that reflected the seasons and decorated our home with them. Each one gave me satisfaction of a great job done and my family loved them too.

Our daughter and son-in-law have bought a turn-of-the century farmhouse in the country north of where we live. It’s going to take alot of work as most old homes do! She has asked me for seasonal wall hangings to put in their home!

So for her birthday I bought these printed panel blocks and the companion fabric from my local quilt store. The blocks look peaceful and pleasant and the border fabric is a fun toss of dried corn, pumpkins, sunflowers, acorns, birdhouses and crows!

 Pumpkin Wall hanging

So here’s the photo of the wall hanging that I came up with. I had some gold mini print in my stash that matched the pumpkins perfectly. I have yet to purchase some muslin for the back. I’ll piece leftover batting pieces for the filling.  I have taped it to the wall to get a good picture of it.

The quilting will make it warm and homey. Do you piece your batting pieces together? All you have to do is straighten the edges and use a wide zigzag on your machine. Butt the edges together and zigzag down the length. Try not to pull at the batting. Sometimes I press the butt with my iron to get any bumps out of it that develop with sewing tension. I keep all good sized pieces and use them up this way.

If you are wondering who made the fabric, it’s a fall collection from Maywood Studios. Sorry-I don’t know the name! It’s not on the fabric edge.

Happy quilting,

New Quilt Shop!

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

This week I had the privilege to travel a little more then 1 hour east of where I live to visit a new quilt shop! It’s called Backstreet Quilt Shop in Elkton at 4910 York Street.

Elkton is in the heart of the thumb of Michigan.  A mother and daughter team own the shop. Barbie Brooks is the mother and her daughter is Beckie Binder. They have turned a church into a quilt shop on a back street two blocks from the main street running through town.  Here’s a photo of their shop:

They have a nice variety of fabrics and patterns. They also offer the unique service of machine quilting your quilts with their longarm quilting machine.

I also couldn’t resist taking a picture of this cute display Barbie and Beckie have set up in their shop. I love old sewing machines. I learned on a treadle sewing machine at home! And yes-we did have electricity-it was the 60’s!

Barbie and Beckie would love to say hi if you are traveling through Michigan. For those of you who know our state cities, Elkton is a small town that lies between Pigeon and Bad Axe in Huron Country. Yes-we do have unusal names for our towns! Best wishes for you, Barbie and Beckie!
